Most romantic places in Rome
NL
Rome, often known as the eternal city, knows many historical sights and beautiful places. The city can, however, be extremely crowded by the millions of tourists that visit Rome each year. When I visited Rome I got pretty much annoyed by the bustle around sights as the Colosseum. Luckily we also found the other side of the city, without hundreds of tourists around us, where we experienced the real romantic atmosphere of Rome. Here are the 5 most romantic places we have seen in Rome.

Luckily we also found the other side of the city, without hundreds of tourists around us, where we experienced the real romantic atmosphere of Rome. Here are the 5 most romantic places we have seen in Rome.
5. Trastevere
The district of Trastevere is one of the most authentic areas of Rome. It is seen as the ‘real Rome’. It is located on the opposite side of the Tiber river and a perfect place to stay during your visit to Rome. Even though the parts close to the river and the Ponte Sisto already became very touristic, because it is closer to the main tourist attractions, you can still find many authentic streets and especially restaurants. Make sure you stroll around the area for a while and you will find enough cute and romantic places. Also make sure you have dinner here, it is worth the walk!4. Trevi fountain in early morning
We all know the famous Trevi fountain and therefore, during the day, the fountain is extremely crowded. A way to escape the crowds (and the heat) is to wake up early and visit the Trevi Fountain around 7 in the morning. Besides some photographers and night life public, we had the Trevi Fountain for ourselves. The gorgeous morning light combined with the fact that we were there almost by ourselves made the experience so romantic, even though we were tired of waking up early. Besides having a little (bad morning mood) argument about who’s pictures were the most pretty (I lost), this was one of the most romantic experiences we had in Rome. We spent about an hour watching the light getting brighter and the fountain getting more crowded. Also make sure that you throw a coin in the fountain now you have enough time and space for it. This assures you of a return to the city of Rome!3. Villa Borghese boating lake
2. Castel Sant’Angelo by night
This actually was a recommendation the owner of the B&B we stayed at gave us. We already wanted to see the Castel Sant’Angelo but didn’t think of visiting it in the evening when it was dark. Our hostess was so right!! The bridge and the castle itself were both beautifully lighted up and from the bridge we had a gorgeous view of St. Peter’s basilica which also looked gorgeous at night. Several street musicians and artists were perched on the bridge. This bridge was the place where we decided to lock our lovelock to. And right at the moment we threw the key in the Tiber, the street musicians started to play very romantic music. Even though I would never do that in public, I felt the urge of slow dancing on the bridge. Overall it probably was the most romantic experience we had in the city of Rome, ánd the most romantic place where we now have a love lock.1. Giardino degli Aranci at sunset
And then finally
our number 1. At first I wasn’t planning on mentioning this public park in one
of my blogs. This because it is a real hidden secret and mostly only known by
locals. But lucky you, I decided to share it. The Giardino degli Aranci park is
located in the Aventino district, and it is very close to the more common known
‘Knights of Malta keyhole’. It is a very small park with orange trees (explains
the name Giardino degli Aranci or translated as ‘Orange Garden’). At the
end of the park there is a small terrace with an extraordinary gorgeous
panorama view of the city of Rome. We arrived in the late afternoon and stayed
to see the sun go down behind St. Peter’s Basilica. The only other people in
the park were some locals in their twenties who brought a bottle of wine with
some plastic cups to enjoy this amazing view. The park normally closes around
21.00 but the patient guard only closed the park around 21.45. In total we
spend around 4 hours in this park and for me, it was the absolute highlight of
our whole trip to Rome. This is where I fell in love with the city! So buy a
bottle of wine and enjoy one of the best sundowners you will ever experience!! (Note:
The district of Aventino is often not displayed on the tourist map of Rome, it
should be positioned at the bottom left corner, and is of very close walking
distance from Circus Maximus and surroundings.)
