Workshop Pizza Baking in Rome
The
workshop started at 17.00, and that’s exactly when we entered the restaurant.
After the other participants arrived (we were the only ones besides one very
nice family from San Diego) our chef Nando started to explain how to make the
dough for the pizza crust. While we used very little ingredients, it turned out
to be more difficult than we expected. We mixed everything with just a fork and
after that, we were allowed to use our hands. Also, the shaping of the pizza
crust was pretty difficult. While we expected to have to throw it in the air we
had to do it with a rolling pin. Next up was the most fun part, the decorating
of the pizza. We were able to choose between various ingredients which made it a
lot of fun. It turned out to be a 50/50 pizza with on the one side peperoni, tomato
and basil, and on the other side paprika, courgette and eggplant. After we
finished our pizzas were taken away and we were given a drink and some
brochette to enjoy ourselves, waiting for the moment of truth. The pizza’s
turned out a bit messy, but they were delicious.
We did this
pizza baking class at a restaurant called ‘That’s Amore’ very close to the
Trevi Fountain. Besides only giving workshops in pizza baking they also give
food tours and host full cooking days in which the collecting of the
ingredients and making pasta are combined. These are, however, not given in the
restaurant, but at another location (also in the centre). The price for the
pizza baking workshop is €50, - per person and it includes brochette, the
experience of making your own pizza, all your drinks and the dessert. For more
information, please check out the website of the restaurant: http://fabiolouscookingday.com/pizza-making-class/
Overall it
was a very nice experience and we would recommend it to everyone! Making your
own pizza in the middle of Rome… a dream come true!
